Committee Charge
The Marine Operations Committee (MOC) at Oregon State University (OSU) provides guidance and support to the Office of Marine Operations (OMO) in its strategic planning for the university’s research vessels, scientific boating and diving programs, shoreside facilities, and marine-related activities (“marine” here and throughout pertains to ocean and freshwater activities). The OMO’s overarching goal is to facilitate safe access to marine environments for the academic community. The MOC ensures that the OMO manages OSU’s marine assets safely, efficiently, and in alignment with the university’s research, education, and outreach missions. In addition, the committee supports the establishment of criteria for OSU employees to work with non-OSU assets such as charter vessels. The MOC subsumes the former College of Earth, Ocean, and Atmospheric Sciences (CEOAS) Ship Operations Committee – as well as other groups across OSU that had oversight of marine operations prior to the creation of the OMO – thereby integrating these functions into a centralized framework.
